Editing GDM Sessions

Edit the ~/.dmrc file like so
Code:

[Desktop]
Session=session

Where session is the executable of the session. For Xfce this would be:
Code:

[Desktop]
Session=xfce4

You can also add the default language in ~/.dmrc. For example:
Code:

[Desktop]
Session=xfce4
Language=en_CA.UTF-8
